Take a Polo lesson from Erik Wright www.wrightwaypolo.com There is no need to own a horse, Erik has Polo horse available long and short term.
Polo fields are typically 300 yards in length and 160-200 yards in width. Four men on a team, two teams on the field for a game. Umpires, who should be two in number, well mounted and with good knowledge of the rules of the game.
Each player is given a handicap rating based on how many goals he/she is worth to their side. There are six periods of play called "chukkers" that last seven and a half minutes long. Goal posts are 8 yards apart. A fresh horse is used for every period of play. Polo ponies must maintain a high level of conditioning to play. It is said that your pony is 70% of your game. There are rules of conduct that focus on safety and good horsemanship, It falls to the umpires to uphold these rules.
